Chess Master ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Chess Master mobile application for iOS and Android (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Information we collect
Account information
When you create or use an account, we may collect:
- A username and display name shown to other players
- A chess rating used for matchmaking
- Sign-in provider information (guest, Google, or Apple)
- Email address and profile photo URL, if you sign in with Google or Apple and choose to share them
- An internal account identifier assigned by our servers
Gameplay information
When you play chess in the App, we collect and store:
- Game moves, board positions, results, and timestamps
- Matchmaking queue activity (such as your rating while waiting for an opponent)
- Whether a game was played against another person or a computer opponent
Information stored on your device
The App stores your sign-in token and basic profile details locally on your device using secure storage so you can stay signed in between sessions.
Information we do not collect
Chess Master does not include advertising, third-party analytics, or cross-app tracking. We do not sell your personal information.
2. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Create and manage your account
- Authenticate you and keep your session secure
- Match you with other players based on rating and availability
- Run live online games and validate moves on our servers
- Provide computer opponents when no human opponent is available
- Maintain ratings, game history, and fair play
- Respond to support requests and enforce our Terms of Service
- Improve reliability, security, and performance of the App
3. How we share information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share limited information only in these cases:
- Other players: Your username, rating, and avatar (if provided) are visible to opponents during matchmaking and games.
- Sign-in providers: If you choose Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple, those services process authentication according to their own privacy policies.
- Service providers: We use hosting and database infrastructure to operate the App. Those providers process data on our behalf to deliver the service.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users and our service.
4. Data retention
We keep account and gameplay data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us. Some information may be retained where required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as fraud prevention.
5. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted local storage for session tokens and server-side validation of gameplay. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Children's privacy
Chess Master is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
7. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
You can sign out of the App at any time from your profile screen. To change your username, use the in-app profile settings (username changes are limited to once per account). For other requests, contact us using the details below.
8. International users
Chess Master is operated from servers that may be located in countries other than your own. By using the App, you understand that your information may be processed in those locations, which may have different data protection laws than your country.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes may also be communicated in the App or on this website. Continued use of the App after changes become effective means you accept the updated policy.
